PurelyTools ("we", "us") operates https://purelytools.com, a collection of free online tools. This policy explains what information we collect, what never leaves your device, and how we use what we do collect. Questions? Email info@purelytools.com.
1. Tools that run entirely in your browser
Most of our tools process your data locally on your device โ the files and text you work with are never uploaded to our servers. This includes the PDF Merger & Splitter, PDF Editor (browser editing features), Background Remover, Image Compressor, AI Image Upscaler, Screen Recorder, Password Generator, Calculator and our games. For these tools we receive nothing except the standard page-visit data described below.
2. Tools that send data to our server or third parties
- IP Lookup: the IP address you query is sent to third-party geolocation providers (ipapi.co, ip-api.com, ipinfo.io, vpnapi.io) to retrieve results. Results are cached on our server for up to 1 hour and cache files are purged within 7 days.
- DNS Lookup, SSL Checker, Website Speed Test: the domain name you enter is processed by our server to run the lookup or test. We do not keep a history of your queries.
- QR Code Generator: the text or URL you encode is sent to Google's Chart API to render the QR image, subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Convert Images to PDF: uploaded images are processed on our server in temporary storage and automatically deleted after conversion. We do not view, share or retain your files.
- AI writing tools (AI Email Writer, AI Text Summarizer, AI Paraphrasing Tool): the text you submit is sent securely to a third-party AI processing service to generate your result, then returned to your browser. We do not store your text or the generated result on our servers. To keep these tools free we apply fair-use limits using an anonymised visitor code that rotates daily โ your IP address is never stored raw. Please don't submit passwords or sensitive personal information to AI tools.
- Contact form: the name, email address and message you submit are emailed to us so we can reply. We do not add you to any mailing list.
3. Information collected automatically
- Server logs: like virtually all websites, our web server records standard access logs (IP address, browser user-agent, pages requested, timestamps) for security and troubleshooting. Logs are rotated and not used to profile individuals.
- Analytics: we use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage (pages visited, approximate location, device type). Google Analytics sets cookies and processes data under Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- First-party page counter: we also count page visits ourselves, without cookies. This records the page viewed, the referring site's domain, device type (mobile/desktop) and an anonymised visitor code that rotates daily and cannot be traced back to you โ your IP address is never stored by this counter.
4. Advertising
We may display advertising served by Google AdSense and other third-party vendors. These vendors, including Google, use cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info. Third-party ad vendors' use of data is governed by their own privacy policies.
5. Cookies
We do not set cookies for our own tools to function. Cookies on this site come from the analytics and (when present) advertising services described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the tools will keep working.
6. Data retention
- Files processed in your browser: never received by us, so never retained.
- Server-side temporary files (image-to-PDF conversion): deleted automatically after processing.
- IP lookup cache: up to 7 days.
- AI writing tools: submitted text and results are not stored; anonymised usage counters are deleted within 2 days.
- Contact form messages: kept in our email only as long as needed to handle your enquiry.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA and the Australian Privacy Act), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because we retain almost no personal data, most requests are simple โ email info@purelytools.com and we will respond promptly. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Children
Our tools are general-audience utilities. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us (e.g. via the contact form), email us and we will delete it.
9. Security
The site is served exclusively over HTTPS. Server-side processing uses temporary storage that is not publicly accessible, and upload handling validates file types and sizes. No method of transmission is 100% secure, which is one reason most of our tools are designed to keep your data on your own device.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves (for example, when new tools or advertising are added). The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be visible on this page.
